My ancestors were European mercenaries for the Ottomans.

Jannisaries were the strongest force in the military wing of the Ottoman armies. These soldiers would kill Byzantine warriors (based) after winning battles, take their women (based), and raise their children as Janissaries in the army according to Islamic tradition (based again).
