I've realized that it brings me great joy to see my family recognize themselves in my children. Over the holidays my great aunt told me how my son looks so much like my father when he was that small, and last year my husband's uncle told my husband how my sons' hair reminds him of his youngest brother (my father in law).

My father has some family photos from a hundred years ago and my sister and I look exactly alike to our great great grandmother.

I've come to enjoy and love how much a family's attributes can persist, as both physical features and personalities can flow down family lines, and a family legacy can be preserved beyond just what occupations people tend to have.

This means I strongly value these things, and can recognize how easily the family legacy, features, and temperaments can be lost within even just a generation or two.

Just some food for thought.

I like the "family features".

Most of my mother's side have fairly sharp jaw lines. My daughter, despite looking almost exactly like her mother, got the jawline. So, even though she doesn't look much like that side of the family, everyone still recognizes her just by the family jaw.
