Hey guys,

I'm in very good shape physically but my mental health isn't as great as I'd like.

I'm thinking a missing component is needing to cut out caffeine.

I exercise regularly, eat very well, don't smoke, rarely drink, etc.

My DHEA levels are low, but aside from that, nothing hormonal is off. I'd rather fix this issue naturally than supplement, if possible, as I've heard low DHEA is correlated with fatigue.

My question: have any of you here cut out caffeine and what affects did this have on your life?

Yeah I did halfway through last year. It was actually due to necessity rather than choice, as I was suffering from a severe esophageal burn, and consuming anything acidic was a hard no go.

Blessing in disguise. I have way more energy than I ever did drinking it, and I was only mildly addicted (one 24oz cup of drip coffee daily.)

But I was kind of shocked to discover how addicted I was to even that modest amount. Every time I woke up, my #1 priority was getting caffeinated ASAP, to avoid the onset of a headache and fatigue. I couldn't *shit* without it. And detoxing from it unironically took around two months, with variably intense withdrawal symptoms ebbing and flowing throughout that period.

After finally getting completely clean, I now find that even having a single 16oz coffee causes me a noticeable headache 1-2 days later. I couldn't believe that's what I was throttling my system with daily for years. I figure something that messes with your body that viscerally can't be healthy to chronically consume.

So if anything, I think one of the strongest reasons to quit it is self mastery. This is absolutely a substance that enslaves you and forces you to structure your life around it, no different from weed or porn. But caffeine, especially coffee, is the least stigmatized of the bunch by far, so the will to quit has to be entirely self-generated.
