I'm not comfortable at sea either. Below the surface of the water is just a dangerous monstrous abyss and if i'm floating in it I'm just food floating in the water for things much bigger than me inside that water.

On land I can be top predator. I can use guns and armor and machines and technology to give me a huge advantage against the animal kingdom.

In the ocean, i'm easy pickings for sharks killer whales giant squids or whatever else is down there.

People who jump into the ocean are almost as crazy as people who jump out of planes in my opinion. Maybe more crazy since jumping out of a plane with a parachute means you can get back to land faster whereas at sea it is impossible to swim against the currents.
