Disinformation and misinformation about Iran has been going around since the establishment of the current Islamic Republic, but it has reached all new heights in the past week or so.
You've got a combination of domestic enemies of the government working with foreigners to spread some of the most absurd nonsense in mass media we've heard since the '40 beheaded babies' and 'Ghost of Kiev' nonsense.
The current narrative: the government's internet temporary shutdown - common when chimp-outs happen in Middle Eastern countries - is to obscure a mass democide of tens of thousands of rioters.
This is really quite incredulous given that it only takes *one* Iranian or foreigner to get footage of the masses of corpses that should be rotting away in the streets or in mass graves, cross the border into Iraq or Pakistan or any other neighbouring country where internet access is available again, and upload the footage for the world to see.
I'm not stupid enough to believe that, in a country of 90,000,000+ people, not a single person has blown the lid off of this purported, undercover mass democide in an era where huge numbers of Iranians have smartphones and can be in a neighbouring country within hours. It's not as though their cameras, smartphones, and vehicles have suddenly stopped working.
They come up with numbers like '16,000' for the number of deaths so far, and yet I can't see a single corpse in any video that is actually coming out of Iran. Nor see or hear a single bullet being fired.
I quickly checked some gore sites, to which users would quickly upload such videos, just to confirm that nothing has came out in the past few days. As I expected, there is nothing - not a single video - from Iran. It's just the usual fare, mostly drug-related violence from Latin America.
Next, notice that some of the protesters have started promoting the former Shah's son, and the complete imbecile literally says, along with all kinds of other stupidity, that he'll recognize Israel if he becomes Shah.
I get the impression that he hopes that the Trump Administration will install him as a new Shah, similar to how his father was backed by the Americans.
He's a fool if he thinks that America will restore monarchy to Iran. When the Americans occupied Iraq, one of the Iraqi Hashemite pretenders did a similar thing, saying that he would better unite the country than the political parties. The Americans didn't take him seriously.
