Not really. A simple mass extermination with bullets, hanging or beheading would have sufficed. And throw them into mass graves which they ideally dug themselves before getting goodified.

Of course. Transporting jews from all over the continent into a single place just to kill them is idiotic, that's obviously not what happened. It would just be a waste of time, fuel, manpower etc. They were clearly brought there to work, and in the mind of the jews, it was like getting burned alive.

It does however make sense to gather them into camps for a short period of time (weeks, months), just so that they are left in uncertainty. You don't want them to run away and scurry around like rats if it can be avoided. This is just for the initial round - then it's open season.

Just a more strategic approach to maximize efficiency.
