I enjoy the tales of Lucian of Samosata, 2nd century AD.

He told stories of his adventures sailing abroad in exchange for coin.

One of his bullshit stories was so fantastical it featured a flying boat that sailed to the moon and discovered the strange beings who lived there.

Lucian's story was almost certainly satire indented to mock the tall tales of other sailors.

That bullshit story was so fanciful and popular that Lucian unintentionally created the first recorded science-fiction story and created the genre of science-fiction literature.
