Ukraine means something like "borderland" and, when it was a part of the USSR, it was referred to as such. Now that it's its' own country, people jist call it Ukraine.
But, seeing as how it's really not a country at all but a manufactured, perpetual warzone supported by international money, I fell "the Ukraine" is most appropriate.
