It is a medical scam. Girls get UTI and we don't cut anything off of them preventatively. Ethically, there is no other preventative surgery performed to prevent disease without a medical indication.
It certainly doesn't hold up logically, performing surgery to prevent disease transmission to another person. Yet this is the amount of bias applied in studies to justify this practice. If you do any amount of research on it, the whole narrative around ithe practice doesn't make any sense, logically. People study it only to rationalize what was done to them and perpetuate it's practice. Very few studies look at what harms are caused by the procedure. The harms could be observed and measured. One only needs to look objectively at tragedies such as the David Reimer case and it could stop, yet the practice persists.
Symbolically, it is a way to mark slaves, soldiers, or even ritual sacrifice.
