If you read the Bible, in the New Testament there were a group of "Judaizers" preaching that Gentile converts to Christianity had to be circumcised. Paul goes to GREAT LENGTHS to explain that the commandment in the OT is of no effect anymore, and that circumcision does NOTHING for the soul. The earliest church under Peter decided on the matter and concluded that circumcision was not required anymore.
Regarding health issues RE circumcision, the VAST MAJORITY of the males born on planet earth all over the world and throughout history were never circumcised. You can look at any depiction of penises throughout history and see that the uncircumcised penis is the norm. If there were health issues with it, we would've figured that out thousands of years ago, but there isn't, so we haven't.
