You make it sound sinister by ommiting the part where men have an obligation to protect and support women. If you don't take responsibility for your womans safety and needs so she can focus on womanly tasks like bearing children, then the social contract is broken.
I don't want to blame men or women for it specifically, but the fact is, that whole system of gender roles is in shables; its one of the biggest reasons the younger generations are so miserable.
