I don't know if I'd call it a leftist concept, more like a consumer concept. It's especially effective in video games. Games like Fortnight and Call of Duty. It's also used to falsely inflate the value of junk like Funko Pops and other assorted toys.
Its nothing new; if you're old enough to remember Beanie Babies, it was the same thing. They'll release a certain thing and you only have a small amount of time to get it. If you don't get it, then it's gone forever and your collection would be permanently incomplete.
The cure is to abandon materialism and embrace things that are actually important, but that is easier said than done in this day and age.
