Yeah. If I'd think something has so little value, I'd just keep it. The effort alone to sell it is more than its falsely perceived value. I just can't see it happening, the story doesn't make much sense.

I agree with u/ColloidalUranium, I haven't even thought of the simple possibility that it's just fake. Obviously.

My first thought was if they are so broke she's bringing handfuls of coins to the knitting store that he probably would have sold the coins by now for their full value. Of course there are simple explanations why that might not be true, but combined with the fact that it's reddit I'll throw all my chips in.

Or if they were in fact so valuable why leave them in a jar and not, say, a nice sleeve, or a binder? Or even a $20 safe from Walmart?

That's stupid. But that's the most believable part of this story since this was on Reddit.
