You know I come from a family of high alpinists and their motto is it’s better to carry and not need than not carry and need. For what it’s worth. I’ve been stuck up high in the mountains in sudden huge storms and we were able to get out because my uncle was carrying line and harnesses. They’ve seen some deaths up there and now they take it all very seriously. Don’t reduce your pack to the point that you’re not ready.

I don't believe you.

No alpinists has ever said this.

Luxuries cease being "nice to have" when you're carrying them 30 miles on your back along with 60 lbs water, sleeping gear, food, clothing, cooking equipment and emergency essentials.

Essentials are essential and everything else is a burden.
