It was a well known occurrence back then and there was a name for the encounter with these unholy spirits. So of course they knew people would forget all this so they amplified the story and created this desert cult and so on etc. I remember being confused in world religions class on the difference between Islam and Judaism. I asked the teacher on the side and he said "theyre in the same chapter because theyre the same thing"
