About 20 years ago, I started speccing out what it would take to build a business to do just this. The idea was that since storage and compute power was decreasing in cost, someone can pay $1,000 and create an avatar that their descendants could interact with and we'd run the company off the interest.
We'd interview the person and get them to write their history down and then augment it with general history and then program a rules-based system to answer and interact with people. At first we'd do text interactions but we figured that eventually we would be able to mimic people's voices and movements and create a sort of snapshot of what a person was like in life.
We'd build a museum where people could come to visit their ancestors and interact with them. At the very least they'd get a life-size image of what they looked like while they "spoke" with them.
We sort of abandoned the idea because that's what books are for.
People, write your own biographies before you forget what happened when you were younger. Write in a journal every day. A journal is meant for other people to read, while a diary is private.
