>you find your soul in the silence, in observing the world around you, and as you observe it, you find yourself in it, in the natural, unjudged state of things. to adapt your brain to only the fast moving feed of the internet will separate you from this sacred silence, and the ability to sit with yourself. God is in the silence.
Very well said. I believe this as well, which is why I seek solace in nature & is where I feel closest to Christ. Most people want to give the perception that they are always busy (and this has been true for a very long time, a product of the mid 20th century) but the reality is most don't know how to use their time well or have the ability to focus anymore, specifically because of the frantic attitude that modernity encourages. I've found that being able to summon stillness leaves me able to accomplish whatever I set out to in whatever time I have. These are traits that used to be much more common & can still be regained when one sets out with the intention to do so.
And I think reading books is like anything else, you have to walk before you run so starting at a place with goals to built up to is a good foundation to set. When it comes down to it, reading is also a skill that can be honed with experience.
How do you 'summon stillness'? Did you have a regimen for rebuilding your attention span?
I hope you never let your solace be taken away by distractions, really boredom and emptiness is sacred.
