In the doomsday scenario you trade all your hand tools for some gold so you can flee to the coast with 1/4 oz of gold sown into your shirt instead of a wagon full of shit, when n you get there you use the gold to buy food and the tools you need to build your new shelter. It’s just a store of value like bitcoin but real and useful because it’s been used so long someone will exchange goods and services for it. It’s better than trading your asshole.
