RE Asian people: Too many here are focusing on NE Asia (China, Korea, Japan). That is only one small subset of "Asia". Everything that is not Africa, Europe, Australia or America is Asia. It covers a HUGE portion of the world population (if we can trust the numbers they are publishing -- I don't.)

Concerning the Asian people -- they are not and never will be your friend and ally. Anyone who knows anything about their history understands this. The only reason they are kowtowing to Europeans at all is because for a time our military power was ridiculous compared to theirs. They are still trying to catch up. It is not in our interest to share any of our technology with them, because once they gain the smallest advantage they will use it to destroy us. Again, read their history.

Concerning their cultures -- they are all corrupt and there is little worth saving. At best, they provide enough of a mirror of European culture to expose why European people conquered the world deservedly so.

As an example of why this is is found in understanding why Katanas have captured the imagination of the Western world. Is the katana a superior sword in any meaningful way to the swords europeans were mass-producing during medieval times? No, it is inferior in every aspect. If someone showed up in real battle with a katana as anything but a ceremonial sword they would be laughed at.

Then why is the katana so popular? Because by the time we were exposed to Japanese culture, we were already hundreds of years removed from swords being a practical device at all. They were still using it as the pinnacle of their martial technology.

To demonstrate this, there was a battle between the portuguese (really, mercenaries) and Japanese pre-firearms. The mercenaries who had grown up on European battlefields maintained their ranks, raised shields under arrow fire, and used their polearms and spears effectively. The Japanese were barely able to inflict any casualties at all, while taking thousands in losses. It wasn't even a contest. We weren't using swords anymore on the battlefield because we had better tech. They were still trying to duel and show off their swordsmanship skills. We had figured out it's better to keep such people far away with poky spears and such.

Japanese martial culture and technology gave us insight into our own history, history that happened a very long time ago. Now we know why we did things the way we did and not how the Japanese did it. That's all the real value we can gain from studying Japanese swords and military culture and stuff.
