When did Hebrew grow into a real language? Much as all the Romans used Greek, so did Jews from way back in the day. Trying to make it a day to day language isa recent, likely very artificial, phenomenon. Even as far as 2500 years ago, Hebrew was just for religious services and writings, using the language of the land (usually Greek, until a few centuries AD) for everything else, and often even in temples.

I remember reading that ancient Hebrew is a lost language and that modern Hebrew is a "re-creation" that doesn't actually re-create ancient Hebrew since no one knows how to speak or read it.
