The other shitty thing is that a huge portion of the actual material that built the NYC skyline, much of the concrete and steel, came from (then) lilly-White Pennsylvania. Coal mined, limestone quarried, ore smelted, beams cast and extruded, by European stock. Hard, deadly work. Anytime anyone whines about how slaves built America, I remind them that the Empire State Building is not constructed of cotton.
