"First I need to do this, then I can do that" Is the wrong mentality. Analysis paralysis is a real thing that many people fall victim to.

The best way to learn is to do. Just give it a try, whatever you're wanting to do. Expect that you will fail at first, but you will learn much faster than somebody who stalls and is indecisive.
Adversity is the best motivator. It sounds gay, but you need to get out of your comfort zone if you want to succeed.
It is better to learn how it is done at an already established company, and learn the contacts whom you would eventually be doing business with when on your own.
In doing it that way you can start your own side business while being fully employed and work on your side business until it becomes your primary, you will have the safety net of the company employment while you transition.
