There were a few race-mixed kids in school growing up. They never fit in anywhere. They were either not "ethnic" enough for the "ethnic" crowd but then still too "ethnic" for the White crowd. So they became "people pleasers," "class clowns," etc. Anything to "earn" or draw the approval of others. Nearer to senior year, they became reclusive, burnt out from their performative "personality" and never really having the friends they wanted.

For context, Ligers are real but they could never survive in the wild. Despite their stripes, they're too big to hunt like tigers, and because they have stripes they could never be accepted by lions. The only Ligers in the world live in captivity, fed by their zoo handlers.

We should listen to nature more.
