This shit is so surreal to me. Here in spain I have been wandering the streets off and on from about 8 at night to 8 in the morning completely alone (I used to party a lot, I stopped years ago). Nothing ever happened to me, even when I would wander into sketchy looking alleyways and other bizarre places. Occasionally a gypsy child would ask me for money, which disgusted me, but that's pretty much it.

Even now that I am married though, me and my wife can and do freely roam the streets late at night for hours on end without much fear at all of anything happening, and that's how our dates usually end up going.

Of course, spain is a very "nocturnal" country for lack of better words, so the high activity of the typical Spanish at night might deter criminal activity. The streets aren't usually dead enough to do anything unnoticed until the crack of dawn in the summer, by about 2-3am in the winter, even in small towns the people are just night dwellers by nature, but still... fucking surreal that in NYC, the richest city on earth, you have to barricade yourself inside at 6pm like it's the walking dead. Niggers man.
