the direction of the nation is 100% determined by the fighting-aged men. so yes demographics are key. but also the old men must learn their place. they cannot do real violence and therefore have no real voice in the future. this fact of the universe might chap the assholes but this is reality.
The thing is that old people are a whole lot less likely to care in the first place. Much lower testosterone is a pretty big factor. Not to mention less actual physical capability to do things. Name a revolution where the fighting was done by the elderly, or even the middle aged. Name one revolutionary country where the head of state was past middle aged upon seizing power.
I believe that the growing age in western countries serves 2 purposes. For one it creates an excuse to bring in young 3rd worlders to act as population replacement as well as menial and unpaid labor. For the other, it means that the native population is less likely to fight back because they're aged, they have less testosterone, and a whole lot more to lose than someone in their 20s or 30s. The boomers and early gen-xers of the west, especially America, are also very selfish. While this doesn't have much to do with age, and they always were even when they were younger, the oldest (large) demographic still serves very usefully in this regard. They are significantly less likely to sacrifice anything
