I had to look this up but apparently one of the founders has the last name of "Simpson" and the brand was started back in like 2013-2015 or so. They initially focused on simple syrups for cocktails. Not inherently bad but unfortunately the guy's nickname became slang. RIP

By coincidence, I just happened to be on FB and there was some dude with the last name "Simpkins". All I could think to myself was, "If that was my last name, I'd change it."

> SIMPS Modern Beverage was founded in 2014 by Dave Simpson and Gerry Jobe.

They had to have known, or someone should have told them. They don't have the excuse of saying its a heritage name from the 1800's or something. They deliberately chose to name their company "simps" in 2014.

I don't understand the issue with this. Nobody has ever damaged their health with simple syrup before. And so what if Canadians want to buy their own shit, I do too. HFCS and the other mysterious cocktail of ingredients is what causes people to get sick and die by age 60. Sugar water and vanilla extract that people use almost exclusively in coffee and liquor is going go do absolutely nothing to you long term.

Refined sugar is poison. The only acceptable sweetner is local raw organic glypsophate-free honey.

i haven't used sugar in literally years

always use honey or coconut sugar (its got great flavor) for Teas and brews

i do use Stevia at times but its not really good flavor wise (its either too sweet or it got a strange aftertaste, shelf life is also not very high while honey lasts FOREVER)

Is it necessarily refined? I don't own this company, so I don't know.

But what makes honey sweet and sugar is sweet is the exact same thing - glucose and fructose. They're both carbohydrates. Honey has some health benefits but plain old sugar isn't exactly bad for you either, they're both just simple carbohydrates that will be stored in your body as fat if you eat too much of them and do not burn them off.

Which is the real problem with sugar. Too much consumption. It's also in everything. But a life completely devoid of sugar and a life with minimal sugar is going to be the same. A splash of simple syrup is not going to do anything to anyone ever.

Honey also affects the taste of everything that it's in. And it's a strong flavor too. Sugar doesn't, it's just pure sweetness. Honey also doesnt dissolve into a solution as easily as sugar does. There's a reason that Europeans went apeshit over sugar, Honey has a much more limited range of applications than sugar does. If you don't want something to taste specifically like Honey, the best option is sugar.

Sure, but how is syrup made of cane sugar "made in Canada"?

This tarrif stuff is ridiculous. The dummies are being tricked into buying "Canadian" even though the tarriffed stuff is no more expensive.

Cane sugar syrup is Canadian the same way a nigger is Canadian because its mother gave birth to it in Canada.

It's a cultural thing in North America to view cane sugar as the superior sweetener, because it was the most common before HFCS and its still the main rival of it. You can grow sugar beets in some of the Southeastern parts of Canada (although most of its too cold for even sugar beets), but the north American mentality towards anything but cane sugar has stuck. People will read the ingredient label and notice, and will very possibly conclude that it's an inferior product to the American competition because it doesn't use cane sugar. Even in the United states most domestic sugar comes from sugar beets, and if it's not labeled as "cane sugar" specifically, it probably comes from sugar beets

It's pragmatically a bad idea to use anything but cane sugar because everyone views cane sugar as the superior option. The American competition in the OP also all use cane sugar.

But the money you as the consumer spend on the product is going to a Canadian business, which is the main point. The raw product is also mixed and bottled in Canada.

Why not just use natural maple syrup instead of sugar water?
DonaldDucktator on scored.co

Exactly. Maple syrup is very Canadian and actually tastes great in coffee if you don't overdo it👍
