Eh, OP, if you read that one, make sure you read The Forever War. Many think it is a counter to Starship Troopers, although the author, Joe Haldeman, denies it.

Between Two Fires is pretty based. It’s a fantasy horror novel that Takes place in France during the Black Plague, very pro-Christianity.

I like Asimovs Foundation series. It's about the inevitable collapse of a corrupt and bloated galactic empire and what can be done to mitigate the ensuing chaos and descent into barbarism. Timely.
