It is dogma like the Trinity and the Immaculate Conception. If you do not profess and believe it then you are not Catholic. Simple.

No, the worshipping a human woman appears nowhere in the Bible. No, the absolution of sin by humans appears nowhere in the Bible. No, the assumption of a human woman into heaven appears nowhere in the Bible. No, the perpetual virginity of Mary appears nowhere in the Bible. No, the forbidding of priests to marry appears nowhere in the Bible. No, the worship of a human man as though he is Christ appears nowhere in the Bible.

The trinity and immaculate conception do, however.
