They will simultaneously hate their own kids, support miscegenation, create every kind of strife imaginable for their children and then wonder why they don’t get phone calls during the holidays.
I think it's their Cold War programming. They assume the world will end any second so whatever they can shovel into their mouths is a win. No next generation, no future to build, just end it all.
