First off fed infiltration.

But second, I think that this sort of group are usually too cultish. They attract the freaks first and then protect them. Until I can determine through my own eyes how they handle bad behavior and abuse, I distrust first. I’d rather find my own network of people to rely on than seek out a group like this to join.

But eventually, your own network of people could become the "freaks" and "cultish." I think it's natural to want to be in control so as to feel more trust in the group you selected.

This is true. And I like “freaks” in the abstract. But what I see time and again is people alienated from their original social tribes because they are actually bad in some key social dynamic. So they find identity in being an outsider and join a group like this where they are protected and excused, and covered for by the other members. Meanwhile they abuse women, kids, act retarded, get in trouble with the outside law.

And what I’m getting at isn’t that these people ONLY exist in groups like this or even that they are more common in groups like this. But I am extremely skeptical and observant of how groups internally police bad actors. Because what happens too much is coverup and excusing behaviors that bring everyone down.

There’s a lot to look up to about Randy but ultimately he didn’t understand the serpent he was dealing with and it got his wife and son killed. Naïveté and pride are things one has to keep in check.
