Because hatred of evil is a Christian virtue. You cannot understand good if you do not also hate evil. Assuming this quote is about faggotry (it always is) then Christians choose to hate the vice of faggotry because it's proven to destroy lives and is a voluntary lifestyle choice that people take. In hating sexual degeneracy, Christians are doing the loving thing by trying to get people to not destroy their lives. The friction in society stems from the fact that some people think faggotry is perfectly fine despite it being a vice like drug abuse, not because Christians just hate random people for no reason.
