I went to a JC in the mid 2000s and even at that time my cost per unit was less than what you just described. A semester tuition might be $300. One semester my books cost more. So weird that they jumped so much in such a short time.

I noticed that as well. I checked in on where I went every so often. It went up a little, a little more...then doubled, doubled again...

That's absolutely insane.
