To a woman, liberation means the complete destruction of civilization.

There's a reason harlots were exiled or stoned to death

There were no laws prohibiting women from getting credit. There never was.

It was just that we let banks consider gender when determining credit risk. If they had a male co-signer they'd get the credit anyways.

State school was $3000 a year when I was young. You wouldn't even think about taking out a loan for it. What is it now?

>state schools

I got into it with a boomer on this. The usual "i worked through school and didn't need no loans!" bit. In 1975 the annual tuition at my state university was like $1,100. Full time at minimum wage back then was around $4,000/yr. It was entirely possible to work during the summer, and part time during classes, and cover everything. Now the same school is close to $35,000/yr with room and board. Full time at $15/hr (twice minimum wage) is $31,000/yr. It's not even close.

CSU Fullerton is $7470 per semester.
SDSU is $9180 per semester. That is actually a little over 6x what I paid per semester less than 20 years later. That's insane. College prices have increased faster than real estate.

That is correct. But it was always lenders' policy not to lend money to people with no income and no means of repaying the loan. When my parents were married in the 60s (they divorced in '72), my mother had no income and was not considered a good loan risk because all of the money was earned by my father. They were trying to ensure my mother wasn't trying to borrow money without his knowledge that he'd be responsible for repaying. This was the correct thing to do, even in a community property state.

How long ago was that $3k figure? Because as recently as 2007 I paid about that per year at a state school (~$1500 per semester just for tuition, plus books and optional parking pass)

In 1993 I was paying $35/credit hour. A 51 credit hour year (16 fall/winter/spring and 3 for a single class in the summer) was about $2500 with tuition, books, and fees. You could probably spend $3000 if you bought some supplemental stuff. The school didn't offer housing, it was a technical college so that was on you. They did have a fairly nice, low-cost cafeteria that always had awesome holiday dinners.

That same credit hour load is now $10700 at that school. I have no visibility on books, so I can't advise there.

I had a $1000 loan from a school where I took a year of courses before starting in earnest, and paid for the rest with a summer job that, incidentally, paid almost $28 cost adjusted.

I'm sorry for anyone who is entering school now. God bless you.

I went to a JC in the mid 2000s and even at that time my cost per unit was less than what you just described. A semester tuition might be $300. One semester my books cost more. So weird that they jumped so much in such a short time.

I noticed that as well. I checked in on where I went every so often. It went up a little, a little more...then doubled, doubled again...

That's absolutely insane.

In 1997. Amazing the prices were so stable for so long then basically jumped off a cliff.

I guarantee you that electronic college applications played a huge role.

Women are mostly like children so basically they want the rights of men but with the emotional maturity and responsibility of children.

Not true, in Canada at least. In fact, any amount of her loan you pay down counts against any savings you would have to pay her. If you save the same amount you pay the loan down, you can leave with savings while she still has the rest of the loan and no savings.
