I was never the biggest fan of wrestling even though I grew up, and was old enough to understand the golden era, but I did enjoy hanging out with my frens, and playing NES until the PPV started and ordering pizza and shit. I kept up with it a bit up until ECW was sold in 2001 to WWE. Another example of 2001 being the year that everything went to complete shit. Yeah, shit wasn’t perfect, but 09/11 was the final nail in the coffin IMHO. Anyway, for those that didn’t get to experience the original ECW, there really wasn’t much gay about it like the shit you see today. In fact, you didn’t even have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it. I honestly wasn’t, but ECW kept my attention due to how insane it was, and how small the shows were with fan interaction. It wasn’t all niggered up either. Anyway, enjoy the nostalgia below.

I'm not going to convince anyone who already hates it but that wasn't always the case. It started with legitimate contests and challenge matches, then became the most masculine results-and-profit driven form of theatre to ever exist. They broke stories, fighting, and presentation down to an science based on how well it could make money. The originals were legitimate tough guys who created their own version of theatre with a money-making mindset, completely independent of the theatre industry. Pro wrestling is about 80% marketing, with the effects of that marketing being visible in attendance and audience reactions on a regular basis, which makes it really interesting to study from a a story telling, marketing, and propaganda perspective. You can see what works or doesn't work in real time, and then you see how the promotion has to deal with that.
These days the industry has been taken over by theatre kids who don't know that it's all about making money first and foremost and not "Art", but you can see pro wrestling marketing in other things, especially what the UFC has become.
