So are they just printing out boxes that look old and putting new food inside?

Its new 'historically' accurate food based on historically accurate packaging. Like kitschy Lunchables.

>Hero Rations is so excited that to bring the very best WWII and Korean War fully edible, reusable reproduction Rations. This is the “crown jewel” of our ration offerings – the full day’s Korean War Ration, Individual, Combat (RIC)! The RIC was the most common ration issued during the Korean War and went through a number of changes from 1946-1950s. This is the most common version, which includes the large outer carton, three B Units, three M Units, fruit can, three spoons in divider and large accessory packet full of goodies. And our reproductions are FULLY EDIBLE with HISTORICALLY ACCURATE CONTENTS AND REUSABLE and REFILLABLE packaging designs in most cases!

Give me some WW2 German rations with Sauerkraut, pork sausage, historically accurate Fresca and a Pervitin chaser. o/

There are whole channels of guys eating real MRE rations from WW2 to current day...

I've seen the videos. It's pretty cool seeing old ones with a pack of smokes and small bottle of brandy.

Or selling empty boxes, for the ration kits that historically came with cigarettes.

So, I discovered this somewhat later in life.

My grandparents generation (born in the 20s) were obsessed with sanitation. They wanted to kill all the germs and saw manufactured foods as more sanitary than home-made ones. My mom recalls her mother-in-law obsessing about boiling the baby bottles and using formula with boiled water to ensure no contamination.

My parents generation (born in the 50s) were more obsessed with natural foods and home-made stuff. My mom would use canned foods from time to time, especially for things that were hard to get or store, but for the most part she took pride in being able to follow recipes and cook various things. She wasn't too concerned with viruses or bacteria, just that we had healthy immune systems.

As for my generation (born in the 70s), my siblings are all obsessed with the quality of the ingredients. We want to know where our foods come from. We don't want to eat pesticides or herbicides or stabilizers or preservatives. None of us spend very much time eating out at restaurants or fast food. When I visit my sibling's homes they have natural foods stored up or preserved naturally, such as canned veggies or fruits in mason jars.

My grandpa (WW2 era) loved pig loaf until the day he died.

There’s worse foods to eat but come on..
