That was kinda the turning point huh? I got Adventure Time for my daughter to watch, and Season 7 (aired 2015) was *exactly* the time they began hamfisting in a romantic past between two female main characters, one of which was a frequent "will they/won't they" with the main character (Finn, a boy).
And they could have just as easily passed it off as good friends - Finn and Jake were perfectly platonic; Jake even got a wife and kids. But nope, in the final episode (2017) they have the two girls kiss, and in the epilogue it shows them living together as like a couple and shit. Completely unnecessary and hamfisted, clearly for "muh representation" as if faggots need represented on a kids' show.
I personally am against romance period in children's fiction (and fiction in general) because its often just a shallow plot device at best, and at worst some degenerate shoving his fetish in his face. We need more "these people are just good friends" in media, not every relationship has to be (or even should be) sexual in nature.
