Probably based loosely on the demon the writer consorts with. Their religion is all full of stories of rabbis dealing with demons, right? Wouldn't be surprised if all the Hollywood hebes thought they could profitably outsmart a demon like in their myths and ended up possessed.

Rejecting Christ (which is quite literally the central tenet of the jew religion, despite what they may otherwise claim, otherwise if they were real Jews, they would recognize Him as the Messiah) is a mortal sin, one of the punishments for mortal sin is possession. I wouldnt be surprised if most jews were either possessed or at the very least diabolically influenced in some manner.
