That disease spreads regionally over time, meaning "infection" is a well established part of it. Therefore, it has to be *something* that is carried within people. You can say it's bad voodoo magic, but let's just call that thing "virus." We also know that during colder seasons more people are infected, while during the warmer seasons less are infected.
We also know about how a disease caused by viruses progresses in a person's body - the symptoms start small and get to a high point, and after a while (days, weeks) they subside until that person is cured and immunized to it. Or dead from it.
We also know about incubation time, which is just the time between infection and the showing of symptoms. That aids the virus to spread without being noticed. But naturally the virus would have to spread within a body enough to cause enough damage to a body to show symptoms.
We have GOOD theories pulling everything we know together.
So what exactly is the problem here? Clearly you can't just fuck around with the well established parts of it, as it would be an instance of "don't believe your lying eyes and brain", so what shall it be?

The majority of science is proven to work or has real-life applications.
