Yeah, you know how I know? I did it, as a high school job. So did my father, and grandfather before him. And then we went on to college or a trade, and were better for it because we weren't totally disconnected from agriculture Every farm around me harvests either with family or white local labor. It can be done and was done for thousands of years.

Exactly. My parents and my relatives have plenty of stories to tell about how they had to pick crops of all sorts. I am lucky that I missed the time when doing so was serious matter.

So clearly up until *recently* it was done by ordinary people.
