It was an "open secret" that the Soviets did it. Soviets wanted to blame the Nazis for it during the Nuremberg trials, but the West pressured them to drop it, claiming that the obviousness of it all will make people distrust the rest of the official Holocaust narrative.

The narrative is fragile enough as it is. The only thing that holds it really together is a wide variety of countries outlawing questioning it in any shape or form.
