I don't think China is a "high trust"/virtuous society. China is a total surveillance society. The historic examples he cites from European history _are_ from a high trust society (European). This current Chinese example is from people who are 100% sure that if they steal a lunch, they will be filmed doing so and will be completely un-personned by the CCP.

Agreed. The Chinese know they will be unpersonned by the Social Credit Score System if they steal, etc. With that said, this works on those that can think ahead. Jogger Americans who only think of the "Permanent Now" most likely would not be deterred.
