I assure you that the overwhelming majoring of Russian Jews coming to NYC/America in the 1890s were impoverished. I believe this political cartoon was a forewarning.

Perhaps we should find some historical accounts and research jewish population figures in NYC at the time to get better context for the political cartoon.

I already know. By 1900 there were over 400,000 jews per square mile on the Lower East Side of Manhattan alone. It was one of the largest ghettos in the world, and in fact, maps just marked the neighborhood as "ghetto."

Not to say there were no successful jews, because of course many went on to be successful, but they were primarily refugees from pogroms and shithole ghettos in Europe. Even the German jews in the city at the time didn't want them there and did all they could to assimilate them.
