Not a real pact on either side though. Hitler had long since become an enemy of the soviets, and stalin disliked hitler. They both planned to invade each other, but they were biding time with the pact

It's important because it has parallels in history. When governments agree on non aggression it is very likely forecasting the opposite will occur.
