Ashkenazi jews are not Polish. They were required to adopt surnames in the 1700s by order of Catherine the Great. DNA shows that Ashkenazis are simply the jews who crossed over into the Italian peninsula after the Roman expulsion in the first century AD. There, they took brides in the region. Virtually all of the European content of Ashkenazim is from four Italian women from this period. from 200-300, in order to keep the dispersed Jewish population on the same page, the tanakh and the Talmud were written down and rabbinical Judaism was created. the strict regulations on personal habits and hostility to gentiles ecoded within Halakic law determined that jews remained genetically distinct from Europeans over the intervening centuries. Jews made their way north through the continent, expulsion-to-expulsion, not arriving in Central Europe until the 1250s. despite the passage of seven centuries, Germans and Slavs share eight times more genes than either does with Ashkenazim.

The defeat of the jews does not equal their expulsion. I'm not questioning the Roman victory. It was not the custom of Romans to exile people from lands they conquered. Jews make up a lot of things to garner sympathy for themselves and present things in a way that gives them moral license to do whatever they want, regardless of the truth.

Maybe not from the entire province, and definitely (unfortunately) not from the entire empire, but it is a historical fact that they flattened every building in town except their own fort and then built a whole new Roman colony on the rubble.
