I would agree. However, Australia and the US (to a lesser extent) originally existed as penal colonies for violent criminals, and yet they're some of the least likely people to be violent today in their own countries (sorry America, should have used the guns a long time ago)

Not even close, most criminals sent to the penalty colonies were generally for non-violent crimes, but also those for assault and theft. But the violent criminals like murderers were killed.
