The simple answer? They didn't need to. They knew Trump would do whatever they wanted him to do, and created a martyrdom narrative around him (stolen 2020 election, endless court battles, jailed, 2 assassination attempts) to try to keep up the facade of opposition that keeps the normies in line and voting. Politics is just pro wrestling where the jews are the bookers/writers and normies are the hapless marks who don't get that it's fake.
