Ignorance. These people don't know personally scripture and they listen to propagandists.

On a side note yesterday I presented to my wife Hanlon's razor with a twist.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity *unless profit makes malice evident.*

I would add that profit does not directly indicate financial gains. It could also be acceptance into a group or self interest.

There are probably some "Christian" churches out there (thinking [Presbyterians in particular](https://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/news/2025/07/eric-swalwell-praises-democrat-who-said-christians-can-support-abortion), but probably some Episcopalians maybe some Methodists out there too) that would probably say the same thing.
