You're right, actually.
The whole Poland affair was one of the biggest travesties of the fucking war because it could have been avoided in its entirety.
But both sides of the debacle wanted to act like jackasses. After Piłsduski died the polish government went full retard, started killing germans in Danzig, and let itself fall apart
But that's not to mention that hitlers prejudice towards Poles (yes, to everyone on this board, him and most of the other people in germany hated Poles because of historical rivalry, and none of them gave enough credit to poland for stopping the bolsheviks *because* of their prejudice towards Poles) and the fact that he let half of it fall to the ussr meant that, instead of being able to form wehrmacht or SS divisions like he did with... literally *every other* group of people on earth, Poland just ended up being a perpetual enemy and thorn in the side of Germany. Millions of potential anti soviet allies, utterly wasted opportunities. Not to mention that it fucked over millions of people (especially in the eastern half) that had nothing to do with Danzig at all.
Every side in the Poland affair was wrong. I am a hitler fan, I can realize this as one of his single biggest mistakes though. If not his biggest one. If Poland were an allied country with Germany. Hell... not even necessarily that, but at least an occupied country with a population treated as fairly as every other country hitler occupied, that drew troops and ss divisions, also like every other occupied country, the tide of the war could have been in hitlers favor from the start. Thats at least a cool million extra soldiers in barbarossa, and the Poles would have been fine with that plan.

Who fucking controlled "Danzig" (Gdańsk) then ?
It was historically Polish city we lost to Teutonic order in 1308, Retaken in 1454,lost to Prussia (mutinous successor of Teutonic order our king vassalized but not get rid off) during partition of Poland in 1793 and being controlled by Germans from that time to 1945. Technically it was "free city" under League of Nations supervision but nah - it were controlled by Germans.
IT WERE CONTROLLED BY GERMANS TO SUCH EXTENT POLAND HAS TO BUILT SEAPORT IN GDYNIA.
From 1933 in "Danzig" (Gdańsk) were governed by Germans from NSDAP (Yes !). SO WHAT "KILLING GERMANS" ?! Any source proving that ?
So what genocide on Germans ? It weren't even possible !
Fact is it all went to shit because:
1.German-Polish conflict over territories Prussia had (had taken in 1793..). Germans wanted all and were unable to acknowledge fact, that their neighbours deserve self-determination,freedom.
2. Some pro-british politicians.
While the corridor to Prussia sounded almost reasonable the fact what Germans did to Czechs after taking Suddetenland made it clear that it would end with loss of all territories if Poland would agree German terms.
And what Germans did next to our civilians, especially the fact they allied with soviets...
