People bring out the dumbest euphemisms whenever they encounter some basic ugliness that they don't feel safe simply criticizing.

"Strange beauty" aka "ugliness."

Or, when a woman is talking about another woman's hideous tattoos, "That's so cool. You're so adventurous."

There was a black guy at church who was clearly <80 IQ, nice fellow but it was clear from a single conversation with him that he was just a total idiot. One day, after he proved himself yet again incapable of basic time management (because it never occurred to him that other cars might also be on the road during the busiest part of the day), someone said of him "Haha, he marches to the beat of his own drum." And when he was bowling, and just wildly chucking the ball down the lane, with no though to control, safety, or likely damage to the lane, someone else says "Wow, he's so energetic, I love it."

No one who reads the NYT goes to a bodega; they get their food delivered to them by uber eats.

Given how tyrannical NYC is with building codes, I'm shocked that such DIY structural modifications are permitted.
