I still think it is good to try to keep things as clean as possible without outright stifling progress.
But if you look at American Rivers versus these places, you can still eat out of most America rivers.. Would you eat a fish caught in a Yangtze or Ganges?
Yet Who is the one who has to pay?
China opens a new coal plant every week. You know they are transparent and open about emission numbers.
You go fly fishing in India or China you will catch a plastic bottle before you catch a fish, and if you do catch a fish it will have 3 eyes,
But not accept blame for ''GHG pollution'' when China and India alone will derail any world emission cut targets as they set themselves for 50 to 75 years ( and likely more ) of heavy use of new coal powerplants.
Only a dumbass would believe these brand new and comming coal powerplants will be decomissioned in the following decade.
There's still lots of leaking sewer pipes, sewer facilities that leak thousands of gallons of raw sewage into rivers, many factories that utilize river water and often leak oils or other contaminates into the river in between inspections. There's all the street side drainage, all the drainage that flows through ditches that picks up oils and sewage and contaminants along with it.
Basically if you are anywhere near a port city where the river deltas are, i would not drink that river water. Now, if we're talking about swimming in a waterfall or river in the mountains then yeah that water is more fresh from the spring and is clear and clean and cold.
